Fiji Islands Family Bicycle Tour

Island hopping by bike... in tropical time!

Kids love Fiji and Fijians love kids! Join us on a family focused biking adventure in the home of the friendliest, most welcoming people in the world!

Labasa to Taveuni
9 Days
175-200 km Biking
Easy to Moderate . For adventurous families!

Made up of 332 volcanic islands, Fiji is most famous as a tropical resort holiday destination. But beyond the upmarket resorts is a land of big hearted, laid back and genuinely welcoming people.

Picture subsistence villages, rain-forested mountains and quiet roads winding around a coastline of an unbelievably clear blue ocean edged with swaying coconut palms. This is the Fiji we are heading for! Starting in Vanua Levu we cycle across the island and on to the ‘garden island’ of Taveuni’. Add in an overnight village stay, reef snorkelling, plunging into crystal clear waterfall pools and pina coladas and you have the perfect mix for for a real tropical family adventure.

We have planned daily riding distances to be achievable for families and kids aged around 10-16 and riding distance and difficulty can be tailored to the ability of those who join us.

Note: We require a minimum of 8 people to confirm a family cycle tour - so get your friends and family together and lock in your trip!

First of Many

Having just returned from Fiji with my 2 teenagers, I have had time to reflect on the awesome experience we all had. I wanted my kids to experience a different holiday away from screens and other mod cons. The trip was extremely well organised, safe, professional and with great integrity, whilst maintaining a friendly and easy going atmosphere. Great thought was put into each day in terms of accommodation, cycling, meals and other activities. We had the privilege of experiencing a more authentic Fiji, seeing less touristy areas and staying in a small village, amongst other things. The Escape Adventures crew were fantastic - friendly, funny and, most of all, kind, patient and supportive, particularly to my teenage daughter who was very anxious and a somewhat reluctant participant! We were also fortunate to meet another great family who we hope to maintain contact with. Thank you so much Leigh, Jason and Paul for a fabulous 9 days. I expect that I'll be a regular...

Fiji Family Adventure-2015

"What an awesome adventure! We had the best time ever with John, Baz, Mandy and Kier, exploring Fiji on our family tour. It wasn't the usual beach holiday many people go on, but we can't think of a better way to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays!

The cycling took us through diverse landscapes with lush green forests, beautiful hills and stunning beaches along the way. The roads we travelled were nice and quiet and allowed us to relax and enjoy the scenery along the way while covering a fair few K's in the process. We lost count of the number of friendly waves and "Bula" calls from the people along the way.  And if that wasn't enough, there was the hike, the village stays and the snorkeling which the kids loved, and allowed us to meet so many Fijians along the way. These were unique experiences that made the trip for our family.

John, Mandy and Baz – you guys are legends. Thoroughly professional guides that guaranteed us a fun and safe holiday, and now friends too.  We have the most amazing memories from our trip. It was an incredible experience for the whole family - we won't say once in a lifetime though because there is a lot more of the world to see, and what better way than on a bike with Escape Adventures!  Vinaka Escape Adventures and Fiji!!"

The Low-Down

Start: Labasa on Vanua Levu
Finish: Matei town on Taveuni Island

The Biking:

Your tour itinerary offers 15-60km biking per day; a total distance of 175-200km spread over six days of biking.

The Terrain is mostly rolling and flat with some ‘pinchy’ hills. The riding surface is paved and dirt roads which can be rough and pot-holed at times. The trip is suited to riders with a good level of biking fitness and being competent off-road will add to the enjoyment of your tour. A mountain bike with front suspension is the ideal bike and we have a fleet of our own mountain bikes available for hire.

We have planned daily riding distances to be achievable for kids aged 10-16. Some teens/parents may enjoy more riding challenge - and on some days it will be possible to offer more riding for those who wish.

Support: Our trusty support vehicle carries all your luggage, has lunch, snacks and water at hand, and is there if you need a break from the saddle.

Group Size: 2-3 like minded biking families.

The Hike

The coastal walk (Day 8) is an easy four hour coastal walk on a flat and rolling well made trail.

Your tour leaders will take care of your meals and snacks throughout your journey with us.  This excludes one lunch and three evening meals which are at your own cost to give you the opportunity to explore eating options of your own choosing.  We are most definitely able to cater for vegetarians and special diets and if this includes you, please advise us of this before your tour begins, so that the support vehicle can be stocked with the necessary supplies.  Typical meals include:

  • Breakfasts - Hotel breakfasts and local village catering.
  • Lunches - Picnic style lunches, fresh salads, cold meats, cheese & bread.
  • Evening Meals - Village catering and local restaurants.

All accommodation for the duration of your tour is included and includes six nights in hotels on a twin share and family basis (2-4 star), one village stay and one night in a village lodge.  You will need to bring along a sleep sheet or sleeping bag liner for the nights in the village and village lodge.

Preparing for your Cycle Tour

Your cycle tour includes rides of up to 60km per day.  Please do read about the daily riding distances and riding terrain in the itinerary below and prepare accordingly.  The more prepared you are the more you will enjoy your holiday!  Preparing for your cycle tour should involve gravel and dirt road riding, with some hills.  You should be comfortable riding 2-3 times a week with regular rides of 20-30km in length.
