To E... or to Err?

E-bikes are currently the fastest selling bikes in New Zealand with new bikers jumping on E-bikes all over the country! So it's not surprising that every week we receive more and more letters from people wanting E-bike holidays and if people can rent an E-bike on one of our cycle tours...

We believe that E-bikes are a wonderful development in the cycling world. They are getting more and more people out having adventures, a 'leveller' for friends or couples of different fitness levels to ride together, and elite riders are using E-bikes to their advantage, improving the quality of their training...

So. Are E-bike tours on the cards for Escape Adventures? We have given this a lot of thought and discussion, and we have come to the conclusion that E-bikes are not the go for Escape Adventures cycle tours and that for the foreseeable future we will NOT be planning any E-bike tours. We understand that this will rule out a lot of people from joining our tours, however it is important to us that we stay true to our core concepts and philosophies of our business and tours...

The essence of Escape Adventures is, and always has been, to create and lead awesomely adventurous cycle tours. And we want the adventurous riding routes and the experience of getting there to dictate WHERE we go... rather than when and where we next need to 'plug in!"
The full immersion design of our cycle tours attracts people that want some real adventure, people who like the idea of the road less travelled. This often means that we take the rougher, longer, and lesser used route options that go through smaller towns. At times riding these routes can be tough, but in a wonderful kind of way - it is where adventure happens! And with it comes that magical satisfaction of overcoming the challenges and finishing the day feeling like you have achieved. Our small groups who become your “mates on tour” enjoy chatting over a beer in the evening about the highs and lows of the day, how hard that climb was, or how long or how hot is a huge part of the experience.

Travelling through small and sometimes remote towns means that we get to stay in smaller locally owned guesthouses and sometimes home-stays rather than the flashest city hotels. When you arrive into town pedalling on a bike - everyone notices, and it makes for a great icebreaker when meeting the locals in these small towns.

Yes there are E-bikers out there who will argue that they are up for all that and more and that is great! However in general most E-bikers are looking for something a bit 'easier'. We feel that there is plenty of operators offering gentler tours and no doubt E-bike tours will become more and more popular! But for now we are going to keep our tours pedal powered, adventurous and AWESOME!!
