We biked through Dar es Salaam yesterday in time to get to Kipepeo Beach in time for Ali and Becs to have at least four swims in the Indian Ocean... (the Indian Ocean is a tad warmer than the South Pacific Ocean on New Zealand's South Coast).  Harper had just two swims, but cycled over 52km the day before - not bad for a nine year old!  It has been great to witness the locals in their finest and celebrating Eid al Fitr (the end of Ramadan) over the last couple of days; a fantastic end to a Kenya & Tanzania cycle tour with two wonderful families.  Tutaonana Harper, Katherine, Michael, Jenny, Ali & Becs from Baz, Gemma & Joseph

500 odd meandering km through the red carpet of baobab and acacia trees from Dar es Salaam back to Nairobi again, to the now familiar luxury of the Wildebeest Eco Lodge - but it's a bit quiet and less laughter around the camp now our bikers Andrew, Paul, Odi, Jill, Stefan and Babu have left to travel on home.

Plunging into the Indian Ocean

Our first eleven bikers crossed the Kigimboni Ferry on Dar es Salaam Harbour on Saturday afternoon.  We pedalled down the coast, through Kipepeo Village and down to the white sanded beach plunging into the palm-fringed Indian Ocean.  After two weeks of biking tracks, bush and mountains, were stoked to arrive at the Haven of Peace - Dar es Salaam.... tired but very, very happy!  Watch this space for photos.
