Watching the final days of Team Oracle v’s Team NZ or biking the Heaphy Track? It was a big call for keen yachtsmen; but they tore themselves away and bravely entered the technology free remote parts of Kahurangi National Park to bike the Heaphy Track. Even if the weather gods in San Fransisco couldn’t help the Kiwi boat they were looking down on us as we biked up to Perry Saddle on Tuesday morning and kept the pending rain at bay.
Our own private and very social craft market; close encounters with giraffe, zebra and not too close with elephant; cycling 'on the surface of the moon'; and invites and genuine insights into Maasai homes and lives... all in a today's biking in Kenya! Now we just have to get Jan to stay in her bike, Ed to stop spooking animals with his exuberant enthusiasm, and Nic, Mark, Sue, Bill, Jamie and Bill to keep at least three camera batteries charged a day!! An incredible final trip of the season so far!!
Some personal records biking through the open savannah country into the Rift Valley yesterday. Sue, Mark, Nic, Ed, Bill, Jan, Jamie & Bill biked 94km to reach Mto Wa Mbu where we dinned out local style in the street side restaurant. Today is a rest day for the legs as we head into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Baz, Gemma & Joseph.
Ok, picture cycling through the Wild West 'badlands' of North America, add in mind blowing scenery, raging snow fed rivers, clapped out ex soviet trucks and people who use way too many consonants in their language and you have one hell of an awesome day's biking in Kyrgyzstan! Bring it on!! Tomorrow it's another 3000m plus pass and more mutton and spuds to fuel the engine topped off with a shot of vodka. And yes I am working......

Our first eleven bikers crossed the Kigimboni Ferry on Dar es Salaam Harbour on Saturday afternoon. We pedalled down the coast, through Kipepeo Village and down to the white sanded beach plunging into the palm-fringed Indian Ocean. After two weeks of biking tracks, bush and mountains, were stoked to arrive at the Haven of Peace - Dar es Salaam.... tired but very, very happy! Watch this space for photos.
I have been leading our Kenya and Tanzania biking tours for well over a decade now and every time I do I am filled with immense warmth. I am amazed by the little things that change or that we discover, like the crocodile basking on the riverbank near our camp or the new restaurant or cafe in the city that really does make good coffee!!
